This year’s program continues the tradition of highlighting emerging and established Turkish filmmakers. The festival opens on March 21st with Nuri Bilge Ceylan's The Wild Pear Tree (Ahlat Ağacı) which had its world premiere at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. Also featuring in the program are a Turkish cinema classic The Bus (Otobüs); Sibel, winner of the FIPRESCI Prize, Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the 2018 Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland; and Tolga Karaçelik’s Butterflies (Kelebekler), winner of the Sundance Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize. Many films in the program make their North America premieres. Join us for a special screening on March 24th of award-winning films from the Boston Turkish Festival’s Documentary and Short Film Competition which celebrated its 13th year in 2018, followed by a panel discussion.

After the film screenings, the festival continues with a special music program. On April 10th globetrotting musician Alper Tuzcu performs with his ensemble in the concert entitled “Aurora”. Acclaimed violinist Ceren Türkmenoğlu and pianist Chang Liu will perform “7 Lands 7 Colors” on April 25th. Festival will conclude with pianist AyşeDeniz Gökçin’s performance of Beethoven, rock covers and original compositions; “From Beethoven to Rock”.
