Kelebeğin Rüyası

The Butterfly's Dream | Kelebegin Ruyasi

An homage to all the golden boys of the Age of Poets -a journey to the 1940s when the World War II, the shortages and the Obligation Law brought heavy burdens. Yılmaz Erdoğan´s latest film which he wrote, directed and acted in, is a period film based on real characters. The Butterfly´s Dream is inspired by the lives of two WWII poets -Rüştü Onur and Muzaffer Tayyip. In 1941, due to the Obligation Law, every male between the ages 15-65 within Zonguldak and its towns were obligated to work in the coal mines. In the center of this turmoil stand two poets, early in their twenties, whose biggest dream is to be published in the Varlık literary magazine and become famous. Meanwhile, the great poet Behçet Necatigil, then literature teacher at the Zonguldak Çelikel High School, is the only person who mentors, understands and befriends them. When they see Suzan, daughter of Zikri, the prominent businessman of the town, the young poets are mesmerized by her beauty. They make a bet on her: both will be writing a poem and have her read them. Depending on whose poem Suzan likes the most; the other would be stepping away.
