Strangers in the House - Evdeki Yabancilar

An Aegean seaside town in autumn in 1990s Turkey...

Agapi, a Greek woman in her 80s, was born and brought up in the town, but then left for Greece during the struggle. Now, however, she returns to find her childhood house. She’s accompanied by her granddaughter, Elpida, who is in her 20s. Agapi’s house now belongs to Yaşar, a young Turkish man in his 30s. Agapi is eager to buy the house back, but Yaşar is adamantly against selling. The old woman and the young man are both stubborn. The three strangers begin to share the house together. Yaşar wants to renovate and convert the house into a boarding house. Agapi tries to stop Yaşar renovating the house. Elpida doesn’t understand why they’re in that house, or for that matter, in the town. Her grandmother’s silence confuses her. As the days go by, she grows bored of constantly arguing with Agapi and starts to see the ordinary fisherman Yaşar in a whole new light.
