SYNOPSIS

The debut feature from revered Turkish film programmer, administrator and writer Ahmet Boyacioglu is an affectionate tribute to the legendary (real-life) art gallery and bar Siyah Beyaz (Black and White) which has been a fixture in the nightlife of modern Ankara for decades. The venerable Siyah Beyaz bar is viewed as a landmark of high culture and intellectualism in Ankara. Boyacioglu uses this setting as a springboard to introduce his five protagonists – a dysfunctional family of sorts – all of whom are regulars at the bar. Bar manager Faruk is a stubborn but sweet man and keeping him company are the ageing sage painter Ahmet Nihat; the lawyer-turned-businessman Muzaffer, who has a bizarre interest in snails; headstrong Ayten, who has managed to fashion loneliness into a lifestyle;  and the brilliant surgeon, nicknamed ‘Doktor’.
