Seyyit Han is a simple love story amidst economic difficulties of rural life.

Yilmaz Guney


Yılmaz Güney was born in 1937 in a village near Adana. He studied Law in Ankara and Economics in Istanbul. In 1958 he published his first short stories and began working with director Atıf Yılmaz as scriptwriter, assistant director, and actor. In 1963 he began a career in commercial cinema, writing and starring in heroic melodramas and soon becoming an idol, nicknamed "The Ugly King". Starting in late 1960’s with Seyyit Han, he started making films of social criticism. The Road (Yol) which he created with director Şerif Gören, won the Golden Palm Award for best film in Cannes in 1982. Yılmaz Güney died in Paris in 1984.

Guney's three films, Hope (Umut), The Road (Yol) with Serif Goren, and The Herd (Suru) with Zeki Okten were screened as a part of the Ten Best Turkish Films program at the 5th Boston Turkish Film Festival in 2005.
