- He was born in 1970 in Izmir, Seferihisar. He
received his bachelor's degree from the Aegean University in Izmir
on radio-television. He was awarded the Sedat Simavi Award for his
short "Masal" (Tale) and "Kurban" (Sacrifice),
when he was still a student. He started his cinema carrier as
assistant director, working with distinguished directors such as
Orhan Oguz, Mahinur Ergun, Filiz Kaynak, and Yusuf Kurcenli. In
1998, he received first prize of IFSAK with his short film "Bana
'Old and Wise'i Cal" (Play me Old and Wise) which he both wrote
and directed. In 1999, he wrote and directed "Gunaydin Istanbul
Kardes" (Good morning brother Istanbul) and "Cilekli
Pasta" (Strawberry Cake) for television. In the same period, he
directed "Sasifelek Cikmazi", a TV series written by
Mahinur Ergun and wrote the screenplay of another TV film "Bir
Ask Hikayesi" (A Love Story). He wrote and directed his first
feature film, "Bana Sans Dile" (Wish Me Luck) in 2001. His
success in TV series, "Asmali Konak", which had been one
of the most watched programs and brought him about 20 awards from
various institutions as its director, was followed by another
acclaimed TV series "Cemberimde Gul Oya". His recently
released feature film, "Babam ve Oglum" (My Father and My
Son), has become a blockbuster in the Turkish movie theaters and
received many positive remarks by the movie critics.
